Dan Carpenter heads Armstrong Teasdale’s Products Liability practice group. An active trial attorney, he has spent nearly 20 years concentrating on product liability and toxic tort defense. His practice focuses on cost-effective strategies, including creative alternative-billing arrangements, for defendants in high-stakes personal injury lawsuits.

As national trial counsel for the country’s leading manufacturer of auto transport trailers, Dan oversees a litigation team handling cases throughout the U.S., including some of the country’s most difficult venues. He also works with manufacturers of consumer goods and industrial machinery and has handled cases involving forklifts, tires, elevators, escalators, automatic doors, dock levelers and other industrial equipment.

Understanding the critical importance of venue in today’s litigation, Dan has successfully used novel and creative theories to successfully remove cases to federal court. Terry v. J.D. Streett & Co., 2010 WL 3829201, at *2 (E.D. Mo. Sept. 23, 2010). In addition, he has argued for and obtained several forum non conveniens dismissals. Skewes v. Masterchem Industries, Inc. 164 S.W.3d 92 (Mo. Ct. App. 2005).

A certified forklift operator—trained and tested under OSHA—Dan’s detailed knowledge of forklifts has taken him to Finland, Germany and other European countries where materials handling products are manufactured for sale in the United States. As National Warehouse Products Counsel for an international forklift and material handling product manufacturer, he has obtained defense judgments and other favorable results for industrial truck manufacturers.

With broad toxic and mass-tort experience, Dan defends chemical and petrochemical companies against alleged personal injuries resulting from inhalation, ingestion or contact with various toxic substances including welding rods, lead paint, lead ore concentrate and various industrial chemicals.
