Darin McCollum is an attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. He concentrates on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in the mechanical arts.

Working closely with inventors, in-house counsel and patent examiners, Darin counsels through the various phases of product design and development to ensure suitable patent protection and strategic consistency. He advises clients on patentability, freedom-to-operate and patent infringement issues.

In addition to handling patents, Darin is experienced in representing business clients in the area of employment law. He has handled matters involving FLSA, ADA, FMLA and USERRA and guided on employment agreements, employee handbooks and policies, position statements in response to charges of discriminations and plans regarding nonqualified deferred compensation, severance and retention.

Background

Prior to joining the firm, Darin worked with STIM, LLC, an organization developing and bringing to market unique, high-quality consumer products. While there, he drafted provisional patent applications and specifications, evaluated business risks and implemented solutions to minimize risks and performed contract reviews to clarify business obligations.
