Derek Jamison is a patent attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, his main focus is on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications in a variety of technical fields including software, electrical and mechanical.

As one of the few patent attorneys in Las Vegas, he works closely with in-house counsel at Fortune 100 and 500 organizations, sole inventors, start-ups and with patent examiners at the USPTO assessing the patentability of inventions and argues for the issuance of patents.

Through the various stages of product design and development, he guides clients through the patent application process with an eye to alternatives and risks. Derek has extensive experience in cloud computing, virtual environments, and software for computers, the Internet and handheld devices. He also prepares and prosecutes patents relating to gas turbine engines, smart grids, electric vehicles and aviation technology.

In addition to handling patents, Derek prepares federal trademark applications. He also drafts licenses, assignments and non-disclosure agreements.

Background

Prior to joining the firm, Derek was in private practice at another area firm. Before practicing law, he worked in information technology as a software engineer in cloud-based and virtual environments. He developed and optimized solutions for computers, web-based applications and mobile devices.
