With more than 25 years of legal experience and 10 years of risk transfer consulting, George von Stamwitz has seen environmental risk in every conceivable business and regulatory context. As leader of the firm’s Environmental practice group, he handles RCRA hazardous waste landfills, air, water, and Superfund issues in local, state, and federal jurisdictions.

George has designed and implemented over 30 risk transfer transactions and provided tactical advice on numerous portfolios of impaired properties. He evaluates policies for weak language and gaps in coverage and identifies areas missed in the existing program. Additionally, he is skilled in the development of alternative risk transfer mechanisms and utilizing the non-traditional insurance marketplace that can offer an economical substitute to traditional insurance products.

In the Superfund area, George develops strategies and implements negotiations, rulemaking, legislation, and relationships with neighbors and municipalities. He creates trust documents, efficient management systems, and is involved in all political, regulatory, legal, and technical issues.

In all facets of environmental law, George emphasizes education and counseling. He helps mitigate, avoid, and resolve disputes—often through arbitration. But when issues cannot be reconciled, he skillfully litigates in state and federal courts and the Court of Appeals.

George’s experience extends to matters associated with product liability, personal injury, and breach of contract.

As president of AT Environmental, LLC (www.atenv.com), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Armstrong Teasdale, George provides strategic environmental evaluations and risk transfer design services to national and international companies and their existing legal advisors.
