Guy Schmitz is a member of the Tax, Employee Benefits, and Trust & Estates practice group. Businesses of all sizes, in a broad range of industries, look to him for strategic federal, state and local tax advice.

For newly emerging businesses, Guy provides strategies for growth, governance and structure including choice of entity. Then, as businesses mature, he provides strategies for restructuring including strategies for corporate reorganizations.

Guy also routinely advises clients on complex allocations of partnership profits and losses and complex real estate transactions including like-kind exchanges.

Knowledgeable in Internal Revenue Service procedures and those of other taxing authorities, Guy counsels clients during audits and gives advice on related compliance matters including ruling requests.

Background

Prior to joining the firm, Guy clerked for The Honorable Darrell D. Wiles, United States Tax Court. While in law school, Guy served as Editor-in-Chief of the Cornell International Law Journal.
