A natural litigator, Jo Leigh Fischer represents manufacturers of products and gas and insurance companies in all aspects of explosion, fire and electrocution litigation, including products liability, class actions, trials and appeals.
In incidents such as industrial disasters, product failures resulting in damage or injury and equipment failures, Jo Leigh analyzes, coordinates and manages investigations to determine how and why an event happened. In many cases, she visits the scene first-hand to evaluate, examine, reconstruct and assess the incident to determine how the fire occurred and how it traveled. She understands the behavior of fires and is well-versed in the science, engineering and legal aspects associated with them.
Jo Leigh’s knowledge of formalized fire investigation procedures also allows her to provide valuable advice to clients at critical stages of a case. She establishes a response plan to identify the variables used to determine what real estate, personal property, fixtures and certain intangible rights are damaged and compensable. She also assists with the retention of experts and issues of admissible testimony under Daubert or Frye -Mack challenges.
A sought-after speaker and teacher, Jo Leigh instructs police, fire and insurance investigators on what to do at a fire scene and how to handle questions in the courtroom. She is one of only a handful of certified instructors for the Department of Homeland Security at the National Fire Academy and has taught classes for the Kansas City Arson Task Force, Kansas City Metropolitan Insurance Fraud Task Force and the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law.
