Laura A. Bentele

Laura Bentele focuses her practice on commercial disputes and real estate matters. She is also a co-founder and co-leader of the firm’s Agribusiness and Food team.

Laura defends regional utility companies, financial institutions, mining companies, multi-state consumer product retailers and manufacturing companies in state and federal courts around the country. She counsels clients concerning food contamination and safety issues, including cases involving listeria monocytogenes outbreaks, third-party adulteration and diacetyl exposure (“popcorn lung”).

To achieve optimal outcomes, Laura anticipates clients’ strategic and practical business considerations. Committed to effective case management, she is versed in all phases of trial preparation, including written discovery, depositions, expert witness preparation, case strategy, pretrial briefing and dispositive motion practice. Laura has successfully managed settlement discussions and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, as well as aggressively negotiated settlement agreement terms. Ultimately, she strives to maintain open avenues of communication to ensure that clients receive representation that meets their business needs and goals.


While in law school, Laura worked with Washington University's Intellectual Property and Nonprofit Organization Clinic. She counseled clients and drafted founding corporate documents for a diverse array of startup nonprofit and entrepreneurial organizations and obtained 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for local nonprofit organizations. Laura continues to regularly counsel startup nonprofit organizations through Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts on a pro bono basis.
