Richard Scherrer is a skilled litigator working with many nationally known companies such as Eli Lilly & Company, IBM, Unisys and B.F. Goodrich in a variety of commercial and tort matters. As co-chair of the firm’s contingent fee committee, he is increasingly focused on contingent fee matters of all types.

Many of Richard’s cases deal with misappropriated opportunities. Because he is passionate about presenting his client’s action to a judge or jury, he strategizes innovative theories on the structure of the arguments.

Across the U.S., Richard has been involved in complex cases including serving as counsel in a reverse confusion trademark action against the NBA seeking to protect rights in the trademark DREAM TEAM and as lead counsel in the largest nuisance verdict in the history of Missouri. His experience extends to matters involving breaches of fiduciary duty and personal injury defense.

Richard actively mentors younger attorneys. He believes sharing experiences and being available to new associates creates a better and more focused career path. Richard served as Managing Partner from 1998-2007.

Richard is a founder and leader of the nonprofit Second Ranger Battalion Assistance Foundation, which helps injured Army Rangers and their families. As a result of his work, he was elected as an Honorary Member of the Ranger Hall of Fame. The foundation’s recipients include Army Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Petry, who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barak Obama on July 12, 2011. Petry lost his right hand and received other serious injuries on May 26, 2008 during what his platoon commander described as one of the most complex Special Operations raids ever conducted in Afghanistan at the time.

Background

Prior to joining Armstrong Teasdale, Richard served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
