Founded in 1846, the St. Louis Mercantile Library is the oldest general library in continuous existence west of the Mississippi River. In 1986 the institution received a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to inventory its records and establish a modern archival arrangement to facilitate research. Materials continue to be added and retained in this functioning archive.
The Young Friends of the Saint Louis Art Museum are interested in learning about art, meeting new people, and supporting culture in the St. Louis community. Each year, the group holds events at the museum and other locations, including private tours of exhibitions and artist studios, happy hours, and art-related fundraisers.
