Biography
Scott Williams guides emerging and mature businesses in the development and application of chemical and life sciences technologies. With an extensive background in the pharmaceutical industry, he works with clients to maximize protection of high-value projects and provide practical, cost-effective solutions to both routine and complex issues.
He has deep experience developing and managing global patent portfolios, including the preparation and prosecution of both U.S. and foreign patent applications, and counseling clients on matters such as strategic patent portfolio development, product life cycle planning, Hatch-Waxman patent strategies, and product licensing. Scott leverages this experience to provide patent portfolio evaluations and other due diligence assessments for clients on licensing and other transactional matters. He also advises clients and renders opinions regarding patentability, validity, noninfringement, and freedom-to-operate. In potential litigation situations, Scott assists with pre-litigation assessments of patent rights by performing initial validity and infringement analyses, and providing client-tailored patent enforcement and litigation avoidance strategies.
Within the pharmaceutical field, Scott has a broad range of experience supporting pharmaceutical preclinical research, clinical candidate development, and product commercialization activities involving small molecules and biologics. Examples of pharmaceutical products that he previously supported as in-house patent counsel include CALQUENCE®, BRILINTA®, and WAINUA®.
