Dr. Steven Kazmierski is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. A registered patent attorney, he is actively engaged in the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patents, as well as counseling, licensing and enforcement relating to the biotechnology, chemistry and life sciences areas.
Aware that the biotech industry is at a crossroad with billions of dollars at risk, Steve provides knowledgeable guidance, insight and initiatives to inventors, entrepreneurs, academic and research scientists and in-house counsel. His postdoctoral experience and advanced degree in biological sciences combined with his law degree gives him the unique ability to analyze complex biotechnology issues as well as navigate regulatory and policy challenges affecting the biotech industry.
Steve provides legal analysis and counseling in technologies related to gene therapies, biological therapies, pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostic assays, antibodies, DNA, RNA, protein, protein chemistry, molecular cloning, protein expression, cell culture and development, immunohistochemistry, delivery of pharmaceutical and biological molecules, pediatric and adult nutritionals, nanotechnology, microfluidics and agricultural biotechnology.
In addition, Steve counsels clients regarding patent and FDA strategy under the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act (Hatch-Waxman) and the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act of 2009. He also prepares freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity and patentability opinions; performs intellectual property due diligence and evaluates chemical and biotechnology prospecting.
