Andrew Whitehead is a seasoned attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group with over a decade of experience focusing on intellectual property, information technology and data privacy matters.
As a result of his experience working in-house as both an attorney and chief privacy officer for world famous consumer packaged goods and fintech companies, Andy brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge in the areas of IP portfolio management, brand protection and data privacy.
Andy is registered to practice law before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and combines his interest and background in high technology and business to effectively guide inventors, marketers and in-house counsel through all stages of the patent and trademark process with a focus on creating commercial value.
Andy has vast experience resolving a wide range of intellectual property matters in numerous technical disciplines. Andy’s practice includes all areas of intellectual property with an emphasis on patent and trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement. Andy also has experience resolving advertising challenges before the National Advertising Division (NAD) and the National Advertising Review Board (NARB), Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP) actions, online counterfeit enforcement and data privacy.
Andy holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) credential from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, which designates that he has significant experience and knowledge of privacy and data protection laws, including legal requirements for handling data, especially in the context of cross-border transfers.
Andy maximizes business ROI by skillfully drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and technology agreements, as well as handling complex R&D agreements and IP matters in the context of mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.

Prior to joining Armstrong Teasdale, Andy served as senior intellectual property counsel and chief privacy officer for a global manufacturer. Before that, he spent several years as in-house IP counsel for a multinational financial services and technology company. In both roles, Andy was responsible for managing and growing significant international IP portfolios – including thousands of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
Andy also has past experience in private practice, and early in his career, he worked as a senior specialist systems engineer for a multinational manufacturer of aerospace equipment and technology, where he designed and programmed complex computer simulations ranging from physics-level computational analysis to large-scale multi-user virtual reality simulations.
