Armstrong Teasdale has extensive experience in toxic tort litigation, particularly when it comes to asbestos. In fact, the firm has been involved in toxic tort litigation for three decades and has defended more than 50 clients in these matters. This representation ranges from property damage cases centering around entire school systems in St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, to serving as national trial counsel for a Fortune 500 company resulting in the handling and trial of multiple cases throughout the United States.

The firm’s success grows out of its broader toxic tort experience. Armstrong Teasdale combines its litigators’ extensive trial experience with the in-depth knowledge of its environmental lawyers to effectively defend clients in a broad range of cases, including more than 2,500 dioxin claims and other types of exposure allegations including PCBs and lead. Many of our attorneys are former in-house counsel, and our distinguished trial team also includes fellows of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, former federal prosecutors including assistant U.S. attorneys, judges and clerks in jurisdictions across the country.

When it comes to asbestos, our team has more than 100 years of combined experience and currently manages in excess of 4,800 cases throughout Missouri and Illinois with a focus on Southern Illinois. Ray Fournie, who leads the practice area, is considered one of the deans of the asbestos trial bar in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois region. Ray previously served as national trial counsel for a high-temperature insulation manufacturer, Owens Corning, and has taken numerous other asbestos cases to verdict across the country.  He has obtained defense verdicts in the majority of the asbestos cases he has tried, including those in traditionally challenging jurisdictions such as Madison County, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri. Members of the firm's Asbestos practice area have managed and disposed of more than 15,000 cases in Madison County. Currently, Ray serves as national trial counsel for Great Dane, the country's largest trailer manufacturer.

Armstrong Teasdale can provide effective toxic tort defense at a cost savings to clients because our lawyers can split time and expenses with other clients we represent.  And because of our size, we are able to contract and expand the lawyers and staff as necessary to service our clients.

As a firm, we possess both the tools and talent to achieve positive results for clients in the courtroom. Armstrong Teasdale’s in-house litigation support department, LAWgical Choice, allows our lawyers to rapidly and proficiently gather, organize, identify and produce gigabytes of our client’s data in a cost-effective manner. LAWgical Choice provides legal technology services ranging from trial presentation support and database and document management services to e-discovery processing.
