Biography
Miriam Straus is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group. She is an experienced health care attorney who works with pharmaceutical companies, laboratories, physicians and other health care providers. Miriam represents clients in matters such as government investigations, potential violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act lawsuits.
Miriam also counsels clients on compliance with health care fraud and abuse laws, HIPAA and employment matters. She has litigated discrimination and other employment-related lawsuits. She has also reviewed numerous physician employment contracts and advised clients on matters such as noncompete provisions, bonuses and termination.
Miriam’s deep experience in health care is an extension of many years spent in Washington, D.C., in which she drafted policies for the District of Columbia’s Medicaid expansion and health insurance marketplace and published articles on health care developments.
Background
Prior to joining the firm, Miriam was a public interest attorney at a nonprofit organization and an associate at a mid-Atlantic law firm, where she represented clients in a variety of matters involving health care, employment and higher education. She was also an associate at a Pennsylvania law firm where she represented physicians and other health care providers in litigation, privacy compliance and transactional matters. In addition, she has past experience serving as a program analyst for the Department of Health Care Finance in Washington, D.C.
Prior to law school, Miriam was a legislative researcher for Congressional Quarterly, where she tracked legislation, profiled members of Congress, and wrote articles on pertinent health care news and legislation.
