Andrew M. J. Bernstein Joins Armstrong Teasdale in New York
Armstrong Teasdale announces the addition of Partner Andrew M. J. Bernstein to the firm’s Litigation practice group in New York. He joins a roster of more than 370 attorneys across Armstrong Teasdale’s 14 offices internationally.
Bernstein is an experienced trial lawyer whose practice primarily focuses on white-collar criminal defense, government and internal investigations, enforcement actions and regulatory defense, and representing licensed professionals in misconduct and disciplinary proceedings. He regularly represents corporations and individuals in grand jury and regulatory investigations, including those conducted by the U. S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodities Futures Trading Commission, Internal Revenue Service and various state law enforcement agencies.
Bernstein has tried more than 25 criminal cases to verdict in federal and state courts, ranging from allegations of fraud, embezzlement, conspiracy, racketeering and money laundering to murder and federal weapons possession. He has also litigated numerous pre-trial hearings. In addition to his trial and pre-trial litigation successes, Bernstein has helped many clients under government investigation or subpoena avoid criminal charges and other sanctions altogether.
Prior to joining Armstrong Teasdale, Bernstein served as partner and the white-collar criminal defense practice group leader at a nationally recognized securities law firm. Before that, he was a founding partner of a boutique litigation firm, and he began his legal career as a New York City public defender.
Bernstein frequently lectures on all matters of white-collar criminal defense, with a particular focus on representing corporations and individuals in grand jury and regulatory investigations. He has lectured extensively for the New York State Bar Association, national Continuing Legal Education (CLE) providers such as Lawline and Law Practice CLE, and for his own corporate and institutional clients.
Bernstein is a faculty member of the New York State Bar Association’s Trial Academy, held yearly at various law schools in New York. He previously hosted a series of criminal defense CLEs in New York City entitled “Being Heard at Hearings,” which featured some of the top criminal defense practitioners in the metro area. He has also guest lectured at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, and has previously served as a faculty member at The Legal Aid Society’s New Lawyer Training Program.
