Armstrong Teasdale Recognized for Abengoa Bioenergy Sale at 11th Annual M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards
Armstrong Teasdale and its attorneys were recognized as the winner of the 11th Annual M&A Advisor Turnaround Awards “Sec. 363 Sale of the Year” in the $250-500 million category for Abengoa Bioenergy.
Established in 2007, the Turnaround Awards recognize the leading distressed transactions, restructuring, refinancing, products and services, firms and professionals in the U.S. and international markets.
The Abengoa Bioenergy sale’s Armstrong Teasdale team was led by Financial and Real Estate Services partner Richard W. Engel, Jr. and was completed in September 2016. Abengoa SA is based in Spain, but the office for their U.S. bioenergy group was located in Chesterfield, Missouri.
Engel serves as lead co-counsel representing six related companies in the Abengoa Bioenergy U.S. Holdings Chapter 11 bankruptcies, filed on Feb. 24, 2016. On Aug. 22, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri named successful bidders for the sale of five Abengoa first-generation ethanol plants in the U.S., garnering national media attention.
Engel serves as the chair of the Bankruptcy and Debtor/Creditor Relations subgroup, which handles bankruptcy, reorganization and restructuring matters. In his practice, he has represented the interests of local, regional, national and international corporations and financial institutions in all aspects of corporate and financial counseling. His integrated skill set includes financial structuring, restructuring and bankruptcy, as well as distressed corporate merger and acquisition counseling.
Named a Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyer® since 2010, Engel earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law and B.S.B.A. from Saint Louis University. He is admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois.
