St. Louis Trial Lawyer Receives 2018 Women’s Justice Award

April 12, 2018 Press Releases

Armstrong Teasdale, a law firm with offices across the United States, proudly announces that trial lawyer Maureen O. Bryan has earned a 2018 Missouri Lawyers Weekly Women’s Justice Award.

Now in its 20th year, the Women’s Justice Awards program celebrates the success of exceptional women in the legal field and honors those who are helping move the needle in their communities. Bryan was selected in the Litigation Practitioner category, which highlights women who have made their careers in the courtroom.

“Maureen has been a force in the courtroom for years and we’re proud to see her earn this recognition,” said Matt Reh, partner and Litigation practice group leader. “She has a real passion for her clients, who are some of the largest hospital systems and providers in the country.  We know they share our sentiments.”

Bryan is a skilled trial lawyer and co-leader of the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences industry team. In 2013, she was part of the trio that earned the second-largest defense verdict in the state by defeating a neurosurgeon’s lawsuit resulting from a fall that ended the doctor’s career.

Bryan has tried cases to verdict in courts across the United States and, as a member of the firm’s award-winning Tort and Catastrophic Loss practice area, she defends clients in high-profile, high-value litigation matters often alleging catastrophic injuries resulting from medical malpractice, products liability and premises liability. She represents hospital systems, Fortune 500 companies and physician groups in a broad range of claims. In addition, she represents clients in matters involving the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and breaches of protected health information. This includes conducting risk assessments, developing strategies to remedy data breaches, complying with notice and regulatory requirements, OCR investigations and reporting, and defending resulting civil litigation.

Working closely with the firm’s privacy and data security attorneys, Bryan helps clients analyze, develop and implement HIPAA-compliant policies, procedures and programs to mitigate risk in the case of a data breach. This includes providing advice about best practices, potential HIPAA and privacy exposure, and conducting in-house HIPAA and data breach training. Bryan has experience investigating and resolving matters involving the inadvertent disclosure of patients’ protected health information.

Her legal service also extends to the community. She is a volunteer for the Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy for Down Syndrome and serves as a board member for the Criminal Justice Ministry (CJM), which serves individuals, families and communities impacted by the criminal justice system by offering re-entry programs and housing services. Bryan is a member of Christ the King Parish Council and is actively involved in the school’s No Place for Hate committee.

Bryan will be profiled in the April 30 issue of Missouri Lawyers Weekly and honored at a May 3 awards event at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown St. Louis.
