Thor Mathison, a member of the firm’s Corporate Services practice group, has a diverse practice focusing on corporate legal and regulatory issues, including complex technology and commercial contracts, digital payment systems, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, as well as general corporate governance and compliance. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
As former general counsel for a multinational financial technology services company, Thor gained significant experience in the online payment solutions space, including familiarity with the regulatory and compliance issues that impact fintech companies. He is well-established in the digital currency space, including Bitcoin and blockchain technology more broadly, as well as the legal issues surrounding the emerging cryptocurrency industry. Thor has directly advised clients on a variety of fintech and cryptocurrency issues, including mining operations, money transmission licensure, and general regulatory compliance and corporate governance.
Thor often acts as outside general counsel for his clients, providing pragmatic advice on business operations and strategic transactions. He has an active transactional practice, assisting small technology startups to Fortune 500 companies with both domestic and cross border complex mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
Supporting emerging companies, Thor guides businesses through scaling and corporate governance matters, as well as complex transactions, including private equity and venture capital investments. He routinely assists startups with technology agreements and other complex domestic and cross-border commercial contracts, including the negotiation and implementation of data security and privacy provisions.
