Steven Cousins has a national practice and reputation in the areas of bankruptcy, reorganization and restructuring. He is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Significant representations include:
- Serving as lead counsel for the Creditors’ Committee in the 54 cases related to the Apex/Clark Oil/Copper Mountain bankruptcy and restructuring (reported by The Wall Street Journal to be one of the largest privately held companies to file Chapter 11 at that time).
- Representing the Medium Term Noteholders (holding Notes in excess of $200 million), in the 32 Interco cases (reported to be the 10th largest publicly held company to file Chapter 11 in the country).
- Counseling numerous corporations and parties in economic interests in major reorganizations including Continental Airlines, Wang, Olympia Broadcasting, Delta Airlines, Jones Truck Lines, Jumping Jack Shoe Company, Loewen, Foxmeyer, ENRON, Payless Cashways, Venture Stores, K-Mart, Digital Teleport, Inc., Galaxy Cable, Thermadyne, Alamo Rent-A-Car, Merry-Go-Round, Inc., Lehman Brothers, Chrysler, Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. and Tribune Publishing.
- Representing the City of St. Louis in the successful Trans World Airlines restructuring and sale to American Airlines.
- Serving as counsel to the City of St. Louis in airport expansion litigation in federal and state court and in connection with the issuance of more than $1 billion in bonds. He was a member of the Lambert - St. Louis International Airport task force.
Steven has represented several major newspapers including serving as counsel to the Operating Trustee for The St. Louis Globe-Democrat. He, moreover, represents The St. Louis American newspapers and Johnson Publishing Company, publisher of Ebony andJet Magazines and owner of Fashion Fair Cosmetics. In addition, he represents a number of major banks, pension funds and other financial institutions around the country, including private entity and hedge funds. He has assisted clients in all aspects of transactions relating to distressed debt and the purchase and sale of claims. He also represents utilities, hospitals and other regulated companies.
