U.S. Summer Associate Program
Our U.S. summer associate program is more than a summer job. It’s a path to creating long-lasting relationships and building a strong foundation for a successful legal career. It’s an opportunity to apply everything you’ve learned in law school and gain hands-on experience.
Whether you know exactly what area of law you want to practice or are still exploring, our program is designed with flexibility so you get a variety of experiences. To help you discover the legal path that’s right for you, projects are assigned on a weekly rotating schedule from lawyers of all levels, practice areas and professional backgrounds. You’ll also receive coaching and feedback, from informal day-to-day interactions to formal evaluations.
A full schedule of activities enables you to get to know our lawyers and the other summer associates in casual social settings where your only assignment is to have fun and be yourself. The summer curriculum also includes special seminars to teach soft skills, the business of law firms and trends in the legal profession.
Every step of the way, you’ll be immersed in our firm’s culture, from the way we work to the way we celebrate our successes and yours. By the end of the summer, you’ll know what it’s like to be an AT lawyer.
Applications for the U.S. summer associate program are currently closed.
U.K./Europe Summer Vacation Scheme
In the U.K. and Europe, we offer an immersive, fortnight-long vacation scheme annually in July, which includes a variety of opportunities such as departmental exercises, presentations and social events. The program is intended for individuals who are in their last or penultimate year of, or who have completed, a degree in any subject or equivalent level 6 qualification (or overseas equivalents); or who are eligible to undertake a Period of Recognised Training under the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority transitional arrangements.
With a focus on mentorship and varied real-world experience, each student will be allocated a department for the first week, and then move into a new department in the second week. You will be supervised by an experienced solicitor and assigned a trainee ambassador who will guide you throughout the placement. With teamwork as a core value of the firm, you’ll have the opportunity to network and build relationships that are mutually beneficial – helping you get to know AT, and helping us get to know you.
Upon completion of the program, you will understand what ‘a day in the life’ at Armstrong Teasdale entails based on deep insights gleaned from lawyers across our international footprint, and challenging and rewarding work you’ll have the opportunity to accomplish.
Further, our lawyers will assess a combination of skill sets including legal knowledge, research abilities, and approach to work and colleagues, and conduct closing interviews as we prepare to offer training contracts to high-potential candidates. If awarded a contract, our dedicated Integration team will ensure your transition is seamless, and that you have the tools and resources at-hand to succeed. Learn more about our Trainee Program.
Applications for the 2023 vacation scheme will open 1 November 2022 and must be submitted by 13 January 2023. Please submit your CV, covering letter, and final or to-date grades via email to [email protected].
1L LCLD Scholars Program
As part of Armstrong Teasdale’s commitment to recruit and retain diverse talent, we are proud to be members of the 1L Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s (LCLD) Scholars Program. This program provides an opportunity for first-year (1L) law students to work alongside experienced legal professionals, build their professional networks and participate in professional development programs. In addition, the scholars gain valuable relationships and resources from LCLD’s network to help them throughout their legal career.
