As a member of the Tax, Employee Benefits and Trusts and Estates practice group since 1986, Jon Igoe guides individuals in the creation and administration of trusts and estates and in connection with closely-held businesses. He also handles guardianships, conservatorships and employee benefits issues involving health care plans.

Through the use of revocable trusts and other techniques, Jon helps clients organize their financial holdings and develop strategies to assist in the distribution of assets at the time of their death. Additionally, he uses a number of strategies including irrevocable trusts such as grantor retained annuity trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, insurance trusts and grantor trusts.

Whatever the choice, Jon works to ensure that assets passed on are done carefully to reduce tax obligations. He frequently aids trustees, personal representatives and beneficiaries in the administration of trusts and estates.

For business owners whose value of their company is closely tied to their personal net worth, Jon advises regarding exit strategies through gifting, sales, retirement and management succession planning.

For many organizations, Jon provides counsel in the employee benefits area, especially as it relates to health care plans. This includes both ERISA and non-ERISA plans. He assists with questions about plan interpretation including coverage issues.

Jon consults on various issues with respect to COBRA and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), the Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), Michelle’s Law, the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act (WHCRA), Medicare Secondary Payor Rules, and state and local mandated benefits and other laws. He advises clients regarding agreements with third party administrators, PPO networks and stop-loss carriers, including drafting plan documents and contracts.
