Crain’s Names Julie Schechter a Notable Woman in Law
Crain’s New York Business has named Armstrong Teasdale Partner Julie Schechter among its 2023 Notable Women in Law. The list comprises 100 women lawyers in New York who are “furthering justice and keeping the cogs of commerce spinning.” Honorees encompass a broad range of practice areas and clients, and donate their time to countless nonprofits and charitable causes.
A member of the firm’s Cooperative and Condominium Law practice, Schechter handles a range of complex issues including construction defects, admissions and leasing policies, unauthorized occupants, ownership of apartments by trust and other entities, fiduciary obligations of Board members, Board elections, disputes between and among shareholders/unit owners and Sponsors, and issues with neighboring buildings. She also regularly provides legal advice and guidance on quality of life issues, alterations, collections and municipal matters, and has significant experience representing Mitchell Lama and HDFC cooperatives in the operation of their properties and relationships with their supervising agencies.
A frequent speaker, Schechter has lectured at a number of symposia on cooperative and condominium law, as well as other real estate-related matters, and has been quoted in a number of industry publications including the New York Times, The Cooperator and Habitat Magazine. She has also been a counselor at Camp Erin NYC, the largest national bereavement program for youth, for the past decade, and she volunteers her legal services to assist CitySquash, a nonprofit after-school enrichment program, in building a new facility in the Bronx.
