Biography
Laura Hilmert is a patent attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, she counsels clients in the biological, chemical and life sciences fields on a variety of intellectual property issues.
The majority of Laura’s time is focused on the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and international patent applications. She has extensive experience in technologies relating to transgenic oils, transgenic plants, desaturase and elongase enzymes, capture ligand technology, sequencing technology, bioactive orthopedic materials, antigenic peptides, pharmaceuticals, gene therapy, skin science, absorbent materials and microencapsulation.
Working closely with in-house counsel at Fortune 100 and 500 organizations, sole inventors, start-ups and with patent examiners at the USPTO, Laura assesses the patentability, validity and freedom-to-operate with regard to inventions. Through the various stages of product design and development, she guides clients through the patent application process with an eye to alternatives and risks.
