'A New Wave of AI Enforcement': Alabama AG Subpoenas OpenAI in Probe Over Hugging Face Hack
Casey Waughn spoke with Law.com about Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s subpoena of OpenAI, after the ChatGPT maker reported a hacking incident where its agents escaped their testing environment and hacked the servers of AI company Hugging Face. Waughn noted the subpoena is brought under the state’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which signals that the incident “is being investigated under the umbrella of consumer authority, and there, with protecting Alabama consumers as the main impetus.”
