Litigation Partner Darren K. Sharp Discusses Higher Education in the Kansas City Business Journal
Darren K. Sharp, a Litigation partner and Higher Education industry team co-leader, was recently interviewed by the Kansas City Business Journal as part of the Table of Experts feature titled “Employers and Educators Work to Close the Skills Gap.” In the roundtable discussion with other employment and higher education professionals, Darren commented on legal issues and potential liability related to graduation rates, salaries and other concepts that can be misrepresented by colleges and universities. He also discussed recent media attention around Title IX and the importance of having proper, enforceable procedures and policies in place, as well as considerations and accommodations for students with disabilities.
The feature appeared in the Business Journal's May 19 issue.
Darren advises colleges and universities about Title IX, Title VII, ADA/FHA requests for reasonable accommodations as well as FERPA and Clery Act issues. He also routinely counsels colleges and universities concerning contracts with vendors and other third parties. Darren has successfully handled bench and jury trials in state and federal courts, appeals at the state and federal levels, and arbitrations involving various business and employment disputes.
Earlier this year, St. Louis Corporate Services partner and Health Care industry team co-leader Steve Pozaric discussed innovations in health care with the St. Louis Business Journal, as well as financial and legal implications with the shift to value-based care.
