US Supreme Court to hear first Video Privacy Protection Act case Wednesday
Casey Waughn commented on the Salazar v. Paramount Global U.S. Supreme Court case which will decide who is considered a consumer under the Video Protection Privacy Act (VPPA), a law increasingly used by litigants in online pixel tracking litigation. The law bars video tape service providers from sharing personally identifiable information without informed consent, and deciding who is a consumer under the law is a “key issue because it's a threshold question that federal courts must consider when they consider whether they have standing to hear the case whatsoever.” The case marks the first time the U.S. Supreme Court will interpret the VPPA.
