Kansas City Business Journal’s 2017 “Best of the Bar” Recognizes Two Armstrong Teasdale Attorneys
Armstrong Teasdale, a law firm with offices across the United States, proudly announces that partners Shelley I. Ericsson and Tyson H. Ketchum have been named among the 2017 “Best of the Bar” by the Kansas City Business Journal.
Lawyers with at least 10 years of practice are reviewed by a panel of judges selected by the Business Journal, and honorees are selected based on factors such as professional reputation, involvement in significant cases or transactions and civic involvement.
Ericsson has successfully tried a number of cases for Missouri and Kansas employers in both state and federal courts on a wide range of workplace matters. She has been selected by her peers for almost a decade as one of the “Best of the Bar” in the labor and employment field. Ericsson counsels companies of all sizes, from family-owned and privately held businesses to Fortune 100 companies, on how to navigate various employment laws, including FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, ADA, GINA, USERRA, Title VII and the companion state EEO laws. Her services include drafting policies and procedures that are tailored for companies and their individual philosophies. In addition to her employment cases, she has successfully tried a number of medical malpractice actions in Missouri state court, including several to unanimous defense verdicts.
Ericsson is also very active in the legal community and formerly served as president of the Association for Women Lawyers of Greater Kansas City, an organization with more than 300 members. She is a member of The Missouri Bar, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, American Bar Association, Ross T. Robert Inns of Court and the Defense Research Institute. She is also a member of the Centurions Leadership Program class of 2018.
She earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, M.S. in legal administration from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and B.A. in political science, cum laude, from Missouri State University.
Ketchum is an experienced litigator, primarily focusing on employment discrimination, insurance coverage, personal injury and commercial litigation cases. His practice is unique in that he has handled high-stakes cases for clients involving many different areas of law. Ketchum has tried cases to verdict before courts in Missouri and Kansas and has argued before the Missouri Supreme Court, Missouri Court of Appeals and U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. He also serves as deputy general counsel at Armstrong Teasdale.
He has also been named among the “Best of the Bar” by the Kansas City Business Journal for multiple years. Ketchum is a member of The Missouri Bar, Kansas Bar Association, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers and Downtown Council of Kansas City, where he serves on the board of directors.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law and B.S. from Truman State University.
Ericsson and Ketchum will be featured in a special edition of the Business Journal on Oct. 27, and honored at the “Best of the Bar” reception Nov. 2.
