E. Calvin Matthews IV, Eric M. Walter Join Armstrong Teasdale

July 9, 2014 Press Releases

Calvin Matthews, outside general counsel for Show Me Hospitality as the area developer of Tim Hortons Café and Bake Shops in Missouri and Illinois, has joined Armstrong Teasdale as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Services practice group. Eric Walter, a prominent trial attorney who has handled numerous high profile cases, has joined the firm as a partner in its Litigation practice group.

The two attorneys came to Armstrong Teasdale from another area firm, where they worked together to win a number of major victories including the dismissal of class actions against a men's retailer for alleged deceptive advertising.

Matthews has extensive experience as both an outside general counsel and a litigator. As a trial attorney, he has represented clients in state and federal courts in Missouri, Illinois, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Arkansas, Washington and Ohio.

Prior to practicing law, Matthews was a NASDAQ securities trader. He received his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law in Oklahoma and his B.S. from Arizona State University in Tempe. Matthews is admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois state courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri as well as the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Walter, who focuses on complex business and commercial litigation, has broad experience in state and federal courts throughout the country. In addition to handling class action defense and contractual and fiduciary duty disputes, Walter has represented both employees and employers in workplace cases involving such claims as discrimination and violation of non-compete and non-solicitation provisions.

Prior to joining the firm, Walter was in private practice at another St. Louis area law firm. Before entering private practice, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri. In that position, he served as general counsel for several state professional licensing boards. Walter received his J.D. from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and his B.S., magna cum laude, from University of Missouri-Columbia. He is admitted to practice law in Missouri and Illinois state courts; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and Eighth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri and Southern District of Illinois.
