Appeals Court Affirms $19.5 Million Verdict for Waldman and Sayre’s Client
The Florida Third District Court of Appeal has affirmed a verdict secured by Partners Glen Waldman and Michael Sayre in a complex business fraud case regarding attempts to deprive a prominent Miami physician of his 33.3% interest in a family business in Colombia.
Waldman and Sayre represented the client in a two-week jury trial in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court at the end of 2021. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the client on all claims and awarded full $19.5 million damages requested by the physician plus interest, which now amounts to $27 million. The appeals court on Feb. 21 affirmed that verdict without comment. The award was one of the largest in Florida and the United States in 2021.
Waldman focuses his civil trial practice of over 35 years on complex business, commercial, real estate, construction, land use and probate litigation matters. He is recognized as one of the top civil jury trial lawyers regionally and nationally. As lead counsel he has obtained numerous jury verdict awards in the seven and eight figures and has successfully defended to zero verdict claims of equal size.
Sayre represents parties before both state and federal courts, regulatory agencies and arbitration panels in the litigation and resolution of business and commercial disputes. He has tried multiple jury trials to verdict and handled numerous appeals.
