Armstrong Teasdale to Recognize Prominent Alum Hon. William H. Webster, Dedicate Executive Conference Room

March 6, 2024 Press Releases

Armstrong Teasdale is proud to announce that on March 12, 2024, the firm will dedicate the Hon. William H. Webster Executive Conference Room in St. Louis, honoring the legacy of the firm’s friend and former partner.

The Honorable William H. Webster joined Armstrong Teasdale in 1950 after graduating from Washington University School of Law. He was the 15th attorney hired since the firm’s founding in 1901, and handled a broad array of legal matters for the firm’s clients, including M&A transactions and trying cases. He stayed with the firm until 1959, at which time he took on the role of United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, and then rejoined the firm from 1962-1970.

Among the many accomplishments throughout his storied career, Judge Webster is well known for his roles as the director of the FBI (1978-1987) and the director of the CIA (1987-1991) – the only person in U.S. history to have served in both roles.

“We are incredibly proud to have played a role in launching Judge Webster’s remarkable legal and public service career,” said Managing Partner Richard Engel. “His 100th birthday is the perfect opportunity to formally recognize his countless contributions to the firm, the practice of law, and the nation. His lasting impact on the firm, our longstanding clients and the St. Louis community are well worthy of acknowledgement.”

“I can’t tell you how much this recognition means to me,” said Webster. “Armstrong Teasdale was core to my development as a young lawyer, and I look back on my time at the firm with incredibly fond memories and deep gratitude.”

The dedication ceremony will include a formal ribbon cutting, remarks from esteemed Armstrong Teasdale alumni and guests, and the delivery of a Proclamation from the St. Louis County Executive’s Office.

Armstrong Teasdale’s prominent history in the region and internationally is detailed on the firm’s website.
