Attorneys Named Among 2020 New York Metro Super Lawyers®, Rising Stars

Armstrong Teasdale, a law firm with offices across the United States, proudly announces that seven partners have been named among the 2020 New York Metro Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars. Partners Dale Degenshein, Charlie Palella, Howard Schechter, Steven Tolman, Phyllis Weisberg and Jeffrey Wurst are recognized as Super Lawyers, while Partner Julie Schechter is recognized as a Rising Star.

The attorneys are recognized across various disciplines including White-Collar Criminal Defense, Real Estate, Litigation, Banking, Construction Law and Intellectual Property.

Super Lawyers is an annual list of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selection for Super Lawyers includes peer nominations, a blue-ribbon panel review process and independent research on candidates.

The Rising Stars list consists of the state’s top young attorneys. The selection process for Rising Stars is the same as Super Lawyers; however, Rising Star candidates must be 40 years old or younger, or have practiced for 10 years or less.

Degenshein has more than 30 years of experience in cooperative and condominium matters, both as a litigator and transactional attorney. She has represented and advised hundreds of cooperatives and condominiums as well as developers on all areas of board governance, construction and contract issues, alterations, license agreements, modernizing governing documents, quality of life issues and fiduciary obligations of board members.

Palella has more than 30 years of experience concentrating his practice in the areas of appellate litigation, commercial litigation and tort litigation. Cases that he has handled have had a significant impact on the development of New York law in the areas of insurance coverage, civil procedure and tort liability. He has experience advising engineering and architectural firms, manufacturers and real estate developers on a wide range of issues.

H. Schechter serves as co-leader of the firm's Cooperative and Condominium Law practice area and concentrates his practice on real estate law. He has more than 40 years of experience representing cooperatives, condominiums and owners of other residential and commercial property.

Tolman has more than 40 years of experience focusing on construction law and litigation in both the public construction and private construction sectors of the industry. His practice is both transactional and litigation. He has significant litigation, trial and appellate experience, and has represented clients in both state and federal court, in administrative agency proceedings, and in mediations and arbitrations related to construction disputes.

Weisberg serves as co-leader of the firm's Cooperative and Condominium Law practice area. She has over 40 years of experience, primarily focusing on the representation of boards of cooperative apartment buildings and condominiums. Her extensive experience in the industry includes handling governance issues, alterations, disputes between and among shareholders/unit owners, issues with neighboring buildings, construction and contract issues, and municipal matters.

Wurst has more than 30 years of experience and is well recognized for handling significant commercial finance and bankruptcy matters. A fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers and a panelist on the American Arbitration Association’s National Roster of Arbitrators, he is skilled in handling matters involving loan workouts, asset-based lending, factoring, syndications, leasing and C&I, as well as bankruptcy matters, and turnaround situations stemming from transactions.

J. Schechter is a transactional attorney with broad real estate experience. She has advised and represented cooperative and condo boards in various subject matters, including drafting and reviewing proprietary leases, bylaws and house rules, and assisting boards in enforcing such documents.
