Armstrong Teasdale Capitalizes on IP Strength in Europe, Adds Phillips & Leigh Lawyers
Armstrong Teasdale announces the addition of four lawyers and a number of additional staff professionals from Phillips & Leigh to its London office. The addition, effective 1 August 2022, is reflective of the firm’s strategic desire to capitalize on an existing depth of experience in the intellectual property (IP) space and create a stronger foothold in the European market.
Armstrong Teasdale has more than 700 lawyers and staff professionals across 15 offices internationally. The firm opened an office in London in February 2021 with the acquisition of Kerman & Co. Since then, the firm has added more than a dozen lawyers to its London office across practice areas including corporate, litigation, white-collar, immigration, employment, IP and sport, and also opened an office in Dublin in 2022.
“The experience of this team is impressive,” said Managing Partner Patrick Rasche, who is also a patent lawyer by trade. “The lawyers have acted for clients across a wide range of technical disciplines, and their varied backgrounds enable them to quickly and efficiently serve clients from startups to multinational companies. The IP market in the U.K. and Europe is competitive, and we’re fortunate to have top talent at Armstrong Teasdale.”
Phillips & Leigh was founded in 1882 and has enjoyed a long history of excellence in the patent and trade mark areas. Based in London, the firm and its lawyers served clients globally and provided services relating to IP rights through protection, enforcement and conflict resolution.
The distinguished team includes Partners Jim Boff, Martin Hammler, Arthur Boff and James McAllister. They have decades of combined experience concerning patents in disparate technologies, including chemical, chemical engineering, mechanical, materials science and computer-related technologies. The team has further experience with trade marks, designs, domain name registrations and copyright, as well as in identifying additional opportunities to advance brands and inventions aligned with each client’s business objectives.
“We are keen to extend the broader capabilities of Armstrong Teasdale to our clients in the U.K., Europe and beyond,” said incoming Partner Jim Boff. “We have always prided ourselves on providing excellent services focusing on our clients’ success, which we were pleased to see is also a core value of Armstrong Teasdale. Such synergies will serve our clients well and ease our assimilation in this next chapter.”
The lawyers and staff from Phillips & Leigh will join Armstrong Teasdale’s existing London office, which the firm moved to in June 2022, located at 38-43 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3PE. The contemporary facilities feature state-of-the-art amenities and audiovisual capabilities, enhancing our ability to communicate with international clients and colleagues, and foster the firm’s growing operations.
